Is it possible that there are giant sea creatures still out there

The only limit to an animal is size in the ocean is the availabilty of food. Blue whales feed on plankton, the most abundant food source on earth. There may be (and very likely are) large sea creatures as yet unknown to science. Whether or not they get as big as ol' blue is unknown but given that the deep oceans r largely unexplored it is pretty much anyone is guess. Keep in mind that a creature as hefty as a blue whale requires TONS of food per day. It seems to me that a behemoth living in the abyss would soon be starving since most of the life in the ocean is near the surface.

the whale shark is the biggest so far at sixty five feet and tons and tons in weight. But we cant go that far deep yet to discover anything Im sure there are creatures we dont know about. Look at the giant squids that are found in japan look up the whale shark hes really neat.

It seems quite likely that there r giant sea creatures still out there underdiscovered.

Just recently, the so-called colossal squid was discovered - a squid whose body is actually longer than the famous giant squid is (although the tentacles r shorter).

We've barely touched some of the deepest parts of the oceans to date, & have pretty much no idea what all is down there. Who can tell what kind of weird & bizarre things r swimming around in these Stygian depths?

As for larger than a blue whale, though? That I am not so sure about. The blue whale is the largest animal we know of having ever existed, so something even bigger than that is questionable. If we do, it will probably be something that may 'technically' be larger than a blue whale - like a colonial slime mold or something that covers several square kilometers - but wo not really be counted because it is not quite cool enough.

There is giant squid, not sure how they compare with blue whales. The creatures I've seen filmed in the abyss tend to be small.

Anything bigger & there would have been some inkling by now. Commercial prospecting of the deep sea using methods that utilize sonar & remotely operated vehicles (ROV's) would have turned something up by now. I personally do not buy into the persisting mesozoic reptile claims, & there r many out there. The rapid increase in Architeuthis (giant squid) sightings/captures in recent years is perplexing & presses the question of why they were not adequately documented before now.

Although there r few animals that have developed adaptations to the major physiological strains of transversing the water-column in the open ocean & dealing with immense water pressure, the majority of 'the deep's' inhabitants r environmentally constrained in that it is difficult/impossible for them to leave the abyssal zone & cope with the pressure change. However, the abundance of food that reaches the ocean floor contributes to one of my favorite natural phenomena 'deep sea gigantism' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep-sea_gigantism).

So in answer to ur question, yes, there r a crapload of large creatures down there yet to be discovered (mostly invertebrate), only 5% of the ocean floor has been explored!

Cryptozoology is very interesting, I like to be open-minded about the possibilities of big sea creatures still lurking in the deepest trenches, I do know there are still millions of sea creatures yet to even be discovered, even though they may not be big. Here is a neat site.

i think there probably is as over 70% of our world is water so i think there is many more animals to discover like at the bottom of the ocean etc

and just think how many land creatures there are and that is under 30% of the world so just think whats in the sea

The biggest known sea critters of all time happen to be out there now. Nothing aquatic is known from any age that tops the Blue whale, so it seems reasonable to assume that is about the limit.

It is completely possible that there r giant undiscovered sea creatures, & often the restrictions come in whether the organs can grow to such a size to support such a large creature or would they have to be out of proportion to support such a life form. Remember under the sea, deep down there r many, many atmospheres of pressure & therefore any creature living at that depth would have to adapt to those pressures, often resulting in thickened shapes, or elongated shapes. Still, many scientists believe that giant squid, in the right conditions could grow to nearing 100ft or possibly more!

Yes there are but we have yet to be discover them. We know less about what lies in the ocean than we know about the moon.
